Their assistance has not only offered us a safe and secure living space but has also significantly improved our quality of life.” Puni, a resilient widow and mother of three in Nagji Village, faced immense hardships, including financial struggles and the 2022 flood that destroyed their home. Working as a laborer in agriculture, she struggled to provide even basic necessities for her children. Living in a temporary shelter by the roadside added to their challenges. Caritas Pakistan recognized their plight, offering hope by initiating the construction of a concrete one-room shelter. The prospect of moving from a temporary shelter to a secure home has filled Puni and her children with excitement, thanking Caritas Pakistan for transforming their lives. Women's housing, land, and property (HLP) rights are crucial for their security and inclusion. Cultural norms and discrimination often hinder these rights, exacerbated by conflict and displacement. Shelter programs must offer suitable housing, address legal barriers, prevent eviction, and employ inclusive, collaborative approaches.
