Observation on Flood Impact Assessment Report - August 2024
Dear Izhar Sumera & All,

I hope this email finds you well,
Please find the attachment,

I would like to bring to your attention the attached Flood Impact Assessment Report conducted by the Women Children Welfare Association (WCWA) for August 2024. The report provides a detailed analysis of the recent flooding in District Jacobabad, focusing on the Union Councils (UCs) of Qadir Pur, Shah Pur, and Ramzan Pur Deh.

The key findings of the report highlight significant damage to rice crops, livestock, houses, and infrastructure across several villages. The primary causes of the flooding include heavy rainfall leading to the overflow of Kheerthar Canal and Saif Ullah Canals, as well as the Sim Shakh from Baluchistan. This has resulted in severe economic and infrastructural challenges for the affected communities.

I would like to emphasize the following observations based on the report:

1. **Extent of Damage:** The report indicates that 20%-25% of rice crops have been damaged, along with a 5% loss of livestock. Additionally, 5%-10% of houses have sustained structural damage, and 15%-20% of roads and infrastructure have been affected. These figures underscore the need for urgent rehabilitation and support for the affected communities.

2. Cause of Flooding: The overflow from local canals, exacerbated by stagnant water in low-lying areas, has been identified as the primary cause of the flooding. This points to the need for improved drainage systems and better canal management to mitigate the impact of future floods.

3. Photographic Evidence: The attached photographs provide compelling visual documentation of the damage and reinforce the urgent need for intervention.

Given the severity of the situation, I urge you to consider the recommendations outlined in the report. Immediate action is needed to address the damage and prevent future occurrences of such devastating floods.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if further information or discussion is required. I look forward to your prompt attention to this matter.

Best regards,
Abdul Rasheed

Subject: Updates on Response to Katcha Flood Affected People in Sindh Province

Dear HCT members and Donors,

Following an OCHA led inter-agency fact-finding (low profile assessment) mission last week to Katcha areas of Khairpur in Sindh province, coupled with OCHA and Humanitarian Partners' advocacy to the local authorities. The district authorities in Khairpur are now paying attention to the more than 25,000 people affected by floods in the Katcha areas.

We will appreciate if humanitarian actors can coordinate their response with PMDA, DDMA and OCHA to mitigate duplicity.

Attached is a letter issued by Khairpur district authorities for localized response.

In the meantime, OCHA in close coordination with Sindh PDMA and PMD continues to monitor the projected impact of cyclone/tropical depression mainly in Sindh over the weekend.

Thanks,
Gift
