As part of our initiative to create a comprehensive Shelter and WASH Compendium on the SHRRP platform, we are reaching out to all organizations actively working in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and Shelter construction work. This compendium aims to document and showcase various Shelter and WASH interventions, including shelter construction, latrine construction, handpump installations, and other impactful projects, to serve as a knowledge resource for the sector. We kindly request your valuable support in contributing to this effort by sharing the following: 1. BOQs for Shelter and WASH-related projects undertaken by your organization. 2. Technical Drawings: Detailed drawings or designs for interventions such as latrine construction, hand pump installation, shelter designs, or any other innovative Shelter or WASH infrastructure. In addition: If your organization works exclusively in either WASH or Shelter construction, we kindly request you to share BOQs and drawings specific to the sector you focus on. (as of 30 November 2024) ** Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) ------------------------------------------------------------ Total damage and re-validation: According to the Government of Sindh (GoS), the floods in 2022 submerged 70% of the province. The tragedy has hit and destroyed24 of the 30 districts. 12.36 million people have been affected, and 2.1million homes have been destroyed. 85% of the damaged houses are kacha houses. 2.036 million beneficiaries’ data have been verified through a transparent MIS app-based system. (As of 30 November 2024) Disbursement status: More than 850,000 bank accounts have been opened and 781,543 first tranche; 456,676 second tranche; 360,926 third tranche and 222,897 fourth tranche have been received by beneficiaries for housing reconstruction. A detailed discussion was held, and data was collected regarding upcoming activities aimed at creating a better environment and facilitating the brick kiln industry’s transition to zigzag technology. The First WASH Technical Working Group Meeting On November 19, 2024, the first WASH Technical Working Group meeting was successfully held in Karachi, Sindh, organized by Sindh Housing Recovery and Reconstruction Platform (SHRRP) and Sindh People's Housing For Flood Affectees (SPHF) The Working Group aims to enhance coordination, optimize resources, and implement sustainable solutions to improve infrastructure and hygiene practices for communities affected by the 2022 floods. Villagers formed a committee to find a solution and reached out to HANDS Pakistan. After the need assessment HANDS team installed a Paul Water Filter Station that is imported form Genmany with support of Medico International. Families of this village are taking clean water to their homes from this water filter. The station was constructed as easily accessible for all, and the villagers are trained on its maintenance and operation. The project also included education on proper hygiene practices and water quality monitoring. Her life worsened after the catastrophic 2022 floods, which destroyed her home, leaving her family homeless and vulnerable to disease. Despite these overwhelming hardships, Ijat remained determined to provide a better future for her children. Hope arrived through the "Al Madina Model Village Muhammadpur" project, launched by Al Mehran Rural Development Organization (AMRDO) Pakistan and Muslim Charity-UK, which provided Ijat and 100 other flood-affected families with durable homes, clean water, solar energy, and community facilities. Today, Ijat’s life has transformed. She now has a secure home, her children are safe and educated, and the threat of floods and unsafe water is behind them. The project not only provided physical shelter but also restored her dignity and hope for a brighter future. This project is funded by Islamic Relief Canada and is being implemented by Islamic Relief Pakistan. These shelters are designed to be both child and disability-friendly, ensuring that they are accessible and safe for all members of the community. Approximately 12 km away from the district headquarters, the village, home to 18 houses and a population of145, faced immense destruction. With 90% of the villagers depending on daily wage labor and 70% of the families living under the poverty line, the flood wiped out not only their homes but also their livelihoods, including agriculture. Qatar Charity, working in the district since 2022, responded by providing immediate relief through temporary shelters and food aid. In collaboration with the district administration, Qatar Charity initiated a recovery and rehabilitation project for flood-affected communities, including the reconstruction of 12 houses through the 'Model Basti' initiative. This program focused on providing permanent homes to the vulnerable villagers, offering them a sense of security and dignity after the disaster. (As of 31 October 2024) ** Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) ------------------------------------------------------------ Funding Status: Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) initiative represents the world’s largest housing rehabilitation project of its kind. This financial support includes a significant US$500 million contribution from the World Bank and a $227 million contribution from the Government of Sindh. Total damage and re-validation: According to the Government of Sindh (GoS), the floods in 2022 submerged 70% of the province. The tragedy has hit and destroyed24 of the 30 districts. 12.36 million people have been affected, and 2.1million homes have been destroyed. 85% of the damaged houses are kacha houses. 2.036 million beneficiaries’ data have been verified through a transparent MIS app-based system. (As of 31 October 2024) Disbursement status: More than 850,000 bank accounts have been opened and 679,751 first tranche; 443,352 second tranche; 350,454 third tranche and 210,624 fourth tranche have been received by beneficiaries for housing reconstruction. Approximately 12 km away from the district headquarters, the village, home to 18 houses and a population of145, faced immense destruction. With 90% of the villagers depending on daily wage labor and 70% of the families living under the poverty line, the flood wiped out not only their homes but also their livelihoods, including agriculture. Qatar Charity, working in the district since 2022, responded by providing immediate relief through temporary shelters and food aid. In collaboration with the district administration, Qatar Charity initiated a recovery and rehabilitation project for flood-affected communities, including the reconstruction of 12 houses through the 'Model Basti' initiative. This program focused on providing permanent homes to the vulnerable villagers, offering them a sense of security and dignity after the disaster. Shabana Perveen, a villager, expressed her gratitude, acknowledging that the Qatar Charity’s support not only helped restore their homes but also preserved their dignity during one of the most challenging times in their lives.
