The primary objective of ASF is to bring together shelter and settlement practitioners and stakeholders across the Asia-Pacific region for knowledge sharing and discussion to enhance local and regional capacity. The forum is intended to encourage a community of practice that includes governments, donors, development partners, shelter coordination mechanisms, development and humanitarian actors. In consultation with the government Ministry, the organizing committee has decided to host the three-day event scheduled from 28th-30th November 2022 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where the event will be a combination of virtual webinar and face-to-face in one of the selected venues in Dhaka. Participants will have the option to participate in the event either in person in Bangladesh or virtually from their respective countries or base stations. Objective: The primary objective of the ASF is to draw on the lessons and experiences of recent disasters and the wider experience of shelter response in the region. It aims at exploring best practices in achieving safe, adequate, dignified shelter for disaster affected households with active community engagement. Dear National Shelter Sector Colleagues, First of all, we want to thank you for all your continuous support and coordination in sharing updates on activities and plans. It helps streamline activities and avoid duplication of humanitarian response. Since the needs of flood-affected people and the overall situation are evolving and changing daily, IOM, as Shelter and Camp Coordination & Camp Management (CCCM) sectors lead, plans to improve the information coordination systems and regularize the needs monitoring. In regard to achieving the overall objectives, the first phase is to know the operational capacity of partner organizations at the district level. We have developed an online tool for this purpose. It will help in better understanding of available capacity and resource mobilization.
